Instagram trims whitespace out of a caption when it is pasted in, which collapses the paragraphs you wrote into one block.
The fix is to put a character on each blank line that is not whitespace and draws nothing, so the line has content and survives the trim. Braille blank is the default because it is a real printable character with an empty glyph — not whitespace, so not trimmed, and not a zero-width control character, so not caught by the filters that strip those.
Running it twice on the same text gives the same text. Existing blank lines are normalised rather than added to, so a second paste does not double your spacing.
One invisible printable character — by default U+2800, the Braille pattern blank, which has an empty glyph and is not whitespace. It is a real character, so it counts against the character limit; the tool shows you what the spacing costs.
It might. Behaviour varies between readers, and the Braille blank is the least bad of the three options rather than a silent one. One blank line between paragraphs is a reasonable trade; three is harder to defend.
